Screwdriver Used In Assault Of 2 Verona Police Officers: Authorities

Two Verona police officers were injured after a man in distress assaulted them with a screwdriver on Wednesday, Nov. 22, authorities said.

Police initially responded to a home on Linn Drive and told the man, who was not named, he should seek assistance at a hospital, police said. The man became combative and began assaulting officers, police said. 

He then pulled out a screwdriver from his pocket and assaulted two officers, one in the chest and the other in the face, police said.

The officers were able to handcuff the man, police said. While handcuffed ,the man proceeded to kick at police with his legs until they were subdued, officers said.

The man was taken to a local hospital and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and a weapons charge. The officers assaulted suffered minor injuries, police said.
